CHARLOTTE -- The Charlotte Department of Transportation is trying to make riding safer for bicyclists near uptown.
They installed three so-called bike boxes, including one on Elizabeth Avenue near the new streetcar line.
Cyclists turning left are supposed to wait in the green box until traffic clears and then head straight over the tracks.
The other unique thing about this bike box: the cyclists has a pony tail.
"It could be female, it could be male....it's about diversity, who you identify with."
Charlotte-DOT says it's the first bike logo with a pony tail in the city, but they don't know if there are any others in the country.
The streetcar line is scheduled to start operating next week.
