WADESBORO, N.C.--An Anson County man has been charged in the shooting death of the local sheriff's granddaughter.
Shaundasia Smith, 16, died early Sunday after a gun was fired in a home just outside Wadesboro.
Roger Lee Rorie Jr. now faces several charges after the deadly weekend shooting. He is being held in the Stanly County jail because the case involves the family of Anson County sheriff Landric Reid.
The SBI arrested Rorie on Sunday and charged him with felony obstruction of justice and contributing to the delinquincy of a juvenile. The additional charge of involuntary manslaughter was added on Monday.
Smith was at a slumber party when she was shot. Investigators have not released any other details yet on the deadly shooting. Her friends are devastated by the loss.
"You would realize how much of a kind, open hearted she was. She was an amazing friend to have and always had that good vibe,” said Kayla McCracken, friend of the victim.
The SBI has taken over this case. Meanwhile, fellow students from Anson New Technology High School wore purple on Tuesday to honor Smith.
