CORNELIUS, N.C. -- What makes an authentic Chicago-style hot dog?
You don’t just know it when you see it. You know it when you taste it.
“It’s light it’s fresh its an explosion of flavor,” Matt’s Chicago Dog owner Marlys Sielsky said. “When they first [see it they say], ‘Oh I don’t want all of that on my hotdog.’ But if they try it, it really is a great, sensational taste.”
When Marlys moved to North Carolina with her husband Edward, they wanted to bring a taste of home and share it with everyone in the area; opening Matt’s Chicago Dog.
“In Chicago this type of a restaurant is a real culture,” Marlys said.
Named after her son, Matt, and the signature Chicago hotdog.
The Cornelius location has expanded the menu to include Chicago-style deep dish pizza. Everything made from scratch. And just as good as what you’d find up north.
“People would come in and say, ‘I’m from chicago, was just visiting Chicago and I gotta tell you yours is even better’,” Edward said.
There’s plenty of pizza options that aren’t deep dish, along with sanwiches.
“When people walked out the door… they remember the taste. And they wanted to come back for that taste,” Marlys said.
That’s the Chicago way.
