RALEIGH -- It's the day that many shoppers have been waiting on all year long -- Amazon Prime Day. And this year the company has extended their deal day from 24 to 36 hours, offering more than a million discounts.
But do you have a plan on how to navigate the deals? Spectrum News anchor Caroline Blair goes In Depth with experts at Amazon’s headquarters in Seattle for a look at some tips and tricks to make the most out of the day.
Amazon spokesperson Lori Torgerson says first, you need to become a Prime member to snag the deals. Prime Day goes live on Monday at 3 p.m. and to take part in the discounts, you must either be a Prime member or an adult or teen on the family’s account in the same household. Torgerson says once you sign up, you get free range on the special Prime Day deals, along with their streaming music and video service.
Next, Amazon says to download the app on your phone, so that you can purchase items even if you’re on the go. You also can use Alexa for access to deals, or of course the website on your computer. But you can start making plans even before the deals drop. You can add items you’re interested in to a list so that they’re in one easy place for you to find. And you can get a preview of certain deals through notifications. Just make sure they’re in your watch list, and you turn on personalized notifications in the app.
So how do you know if you’re receiving a PD deals? Torgerson says when you look at an item, “PRIME DAY DEAL” will clearly be written beside it, highlighted in all blue. The original and discounted prices will also be visible so that you can see just how much of a discount is being offered.
