RALEIGH — Making a difference in the lives of homeless and foster children, that’s the goal of Myra’s Angels Foundation, a nonprofit that was founded just over a year ago to support and comfort kids during their time of need.
Studies show thousands of children in North Carolina and millions more across the country, are now a part of the changing face of homeless. Whether they live in their car, a hotel or on the streets, these young kids and teenagers are often faced with unimaginable hurdles they should never have to cross.
As nurses, that’s exactly what Myra John and Nicole Lane saw on a daily basis in schools, which is why they decided now is the time to take action. John launched the foundation to offer comfort and necessities to those children during this unique time. They say MAF was founded to make a difference in the lives of homeless and foster children, and believe these “angels need to feel safe, secure and valued.”
To help, MAF creates care packs for kids, with new basic essentials like clothes, toiletries and blankets to help comfort and support them through a smooth transition. They say they want to downplay the often large psychological and emotional stress by giving them their own things.
