GREENSBORO, N.C. — N.C. A&T holds its football homecoming this weekend. With a title of "Greatest Homecoming on Earth," safety precautions will be in place as thousands of people will be flocking to campus.

What You Need To Know

  • N.C. A&T is expecting 60,000 to attend its football homecoming this weekend

  • Students should keep their student ID cards on them at all times

  • More traffic is expected around the campus

While homecoming events take place the whole week, people can expect more traffic during the weekend.

“You can expect a significant amount of road closures around the campus, through the campus in the area of campus,” said Jermaine Cherry, N.C. A&T's chief of police.

Many patrons will be visiting on foot, by car and bicycles.

Joshua Prince, a patrol sergeant for N.C. A&T police, attended the university and knows all about homecoming, which is why safety is important for him.

“We want students to understand that safety is our No. 1 priority on campus,” Prince said. “It's a partnership. Whenever they see something, we need them to say something."

Along with N.C. A&T and Greensboro police, officers from other state schools will be there.

Prince has more advice for parents.

“Preach to their child to stay away from unsanctioned events,” Prince said.

He defined unsanctioned events as house parties, and because there isn’t adequate security, they can be very dangerous.

Officials from the university want those attending to know that it takes everyone’s help for a safe homecoming.

The Aggies host Towson University at 1 p.m. Saturday at Truist Stadium in Greensboro.
