Officials on Thursday released the identities of the suspect and victims in a killing in Readfield Wednesday morning.

Police received a 911 call shortly after 10 a.m. reporting an incident at a Giles Road home, according to Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss.

Upon arriving, police found 32-year-old Margaux Whittemore of Belfast deceased outside the home.

Inside, police found homeowner Dorothy Whittemore, 67, who was injured.

The suspect allegedly fled the scene, but was taken into custody by state police a short distance away, Moss said.

Dorothy Whittemore was transported to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston where she was initially listed in critical condition, but her condition has since been upgradded, according to Moss.

The suspect, Samuel Whittemore 34, of Belfast, was transported to Maine General Hospital in Augusta for evaluation, according to Moss.

He has since been transported to Kennebec County Jail and charged with murder. He is expected to appear in court on Friday.

Margaux Whittemore's body was sent to the chief medical examiner’s office in Augusta for an autopsy, and the manner of her death was ruled a homicide.

"Margaux and Samuel Whittemore were married and lived in Belfast," Moss said. "At the time of the incident, they were visiting Samuel’s parent’s home on Giles Road in Readfield. Dorothy Whittemore is Samuel’s mother. His father was not inside the house at the time but arrived shortly after the incident occurred."
