Two people have been charged after a police chase in Casco ended with a vehicle crash on Friday, police say.

Shortly after 7:30 p.m., deputies spotted a blue Mazda 3 “operating in a manner consistent with a driver operating under the influence and attempted to affect a traffic stop on the vehicle,” according to a statement from the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies gave chase when the sedan didn’t stop, police said, instead turning onto Brown Avenue and “rapidly accelerated in an attempt to elude law enforcement.”

“The operator continued driving recklessly onto Quaker Ridge Road at speeds of over 90 mph in the posted 45 mph speed zone at which point the pursuit was terminated,” police stated. “Seconds later, the vehicle was found crashed at the intersection of Graffam Road, and both occupants fled on foot into the woods.”

Police dog teams from Cumberland and Androscoggin counties were called to help with the search.

The two men were found and sent to Maine Medical Center as a precaution before being sent to Cumberland County Jail.

A firearm reported stolen in Saco was also found during the search.

Police say the alleged driver, Abdiaziz Ibrahim, 19 of Portland was charged with refusing to submit to arrest or detention – failure to stop; eluding an officer; driving to endanger; reckless conduct; criminal speeding; operating without a license; receiving stolen property; a probation violation; and refusing an OUI test.

Police say that Rodrigue Mucyo, 21, of Westbrook was charged with receiving stolen property; a probation violation; and two warrants for arrest.
