CHARLOTTE-- MetLife has found a simple solution to helping out the long-term unemployed—hire them.
The company is entering its second round of its ACT2 program.
ACT2 is a 10 week paid internship for people unemployed for more than 18 months.
Interns can be hired at the end of the program.
MetLife human resources Vice President Jim Boylan says the long-term unemployed have untapped potential.
“Sometimes you can get lost out there, and we thought this is a good program to put together to tap into that pool of talent. First year was a real success for us. We had 12 people in the program and 12 people wound up getting opportunities and jobs with MetLife,” he said.
The program starts in a few weeks.
Boylan says they'll take applications for a third round early next year.
