ST. LOUIS—St. Louis City officials are meeting with a liaison from the National Guard to see if members could play in helping in recovery efforts from Friday's deadly tornado.

So far, Gov. Mike Kehoe's office says there are no identified missions that would be appropriate.

But with trees still strewn around the city and thousands of buildings facing questions about their integrity, State Rep. Del Taylor, D-St. Louis, said boots on the ground would be a big help.

“Their very presence, they could help clear some of these large 100-year-old trees that are blocking roads, that are still on top of buildings. The National Guard would have a great presence and be a great help for us right now,” said Taylor.
