The St. Charles School District sent home to families the letter below:
Dear SCSD families and staff,
As always, we remain steadfast in our commitment to transparency. During an unrelated investigation, we discovered a firearm in a student’s car at St. Charles West High School.
Our SCW administration team immediately contacted the school resources officer to secure the weapon and begin an investigation. While there was no threat to students or staff, it is understandably alarming that a student brought a firearm onto school grounds. Safety remains our top priority, and we take this situation very seriously.
The student was arrested for the possession of a firearm on school property, and we are following our district’s code of conduct, the Safe Schools Act and all applicable laws.
As a reminder, our policies prohibit weapons of any kind on school property, including in student and family vehicles.
We appreciate the quick response of our administration team and law enforcement to keep our schools safe for all children, staff and families. Thank you for your continued support of the City of St. Charles School District.
Sincerely,
Dr. Jason Sefrit
Superintendent
City of St. Charles School District
