ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo.— Maryville University announced on Wednesday that Daniel Shipp will become the next president of Maryville University in June 2025. Shipp, current president of Pittsburg State University, will become the 11th university president at the end of the academic year.

“It is an incredible honor to be selected as the next president of Maryville University,” Shipp said in a statement. “I am inspired by Maryville’s bold vision, its commitment to expanding access and opportunity, and its innovative approach to education. I look forward to working alongside the board, faculty, staff, students, alumni and the overall Maryville community to continue the tradition of shaping the future of higher education.”

Shipp will succeed Mark Lombardi, who served as president for 18 years. Lombardi announced plans to retire in August 2024.

“It has been an honor to lead Maryville through an era of tremendous growth and transformation,” Lombardi said. “The search committee and the Board selected a proven leader in Dr. Shipp. I have every confidence that he will lead and expand Maryville’s commitment to innovation, student success and access and opportunity for all.”

The Board of Trustees and the Presidential Search Committee selected Shipp after a months-long search process. Ed Ryan, chair of the Board of Trustees, says the board is confident in their decision.

“Maryville University has long been a pioneer in reimagining higher education and will continue to strengthen its national leadership in access, innovation, and student outcomes with Dr. Shipp at the helm,” Ryan said. “Dan’s background will propel Maryville even further, ensuring that we continue transforming higher education.”

Maryville officials say they’ll announce more details about the leadership transition in the coming months.
