DUPO, Ill.— Major Case Squad announced it has arrested and charged three teenagers for the illegal fire arm sale that led to Cody Rhodes’ murder in Dupo on Monday, Feb. 3.
A 15-year-old from East St. Louis and 16-year-old Kingston Todd were charged with first degree murder and firearm related charges.
Police were called to the 100 block of N. 2nd Street, which is across the street from the police department, before noon Monday. Officers found two people with gunshot wounds. Rhodes was pronounced dead at a hospital.
Investigators with the Major Case Squad explained Friday that during the attempted purchase, counterfeit money was recognized and additional guns were brandished leading to the shooting.
Todd, from Nixa, Mo. is being charged as an adult. The victim’s son, 18-year-old Bryce Rhodes from Festus, received two firearm charges and one for obstructing justice.
