ST LOUIS COUNTY, Mo.–Saint Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office has charged one of the three adults who were home when a gun went off killing four-year-old Aubreeyonna Muex.

56-years-old Detrice Young, Muex’s grandmother, was charged with Endangering the Welfare of a Child Creating Substantial Risk and Endangering the Welfare of a Child First Degree Resulting in Death. She’s being held on a $50,000 bond.

According to the probable cause statement, witnesses said Young was home with two other adults and three children when they all went to sleep. Investigators say both aunts awoke to one gunshot and found Muex, a gun, and a two-year-old at the foot of Young’s bed. The witnesses say Young is the only one who owns a gun in the home.

“Post Miranda, Defendant (Young) admits she sleeps with the gun under her pillow every night and left the gun unsecured that day,” according to St. Louis County Police.

Over the past few years County Police and the Saint Louis Metropolitan Police Department homicide teams worked cases with victims 17 and under.
