CAHOKIA HEIGHTS, Ill.—St. Clair County’s State’s Attorney’s Office has charged three men in relation to the shootings in Cahokia Heights nearly a week ago.
Deontrez Mosley, 18, received two counts of possession of a stolen motor vehicle and one count of aggravated discharge of a firearm. Xavier Lacey, 19, and Dontae Jackson, 21, each received one count of aggravated discharge of a firearm.
The Major Case Squad (MCS) of Greater Saint Louis was activated at the request of the Cahokia Heights Police Department last Saturday, Feb. 22, to track down suspects involved in the shooting of two fifteen-year-olds.
One of those victims, Charles E. Jones, succumbed to his injuries a couple days later on Feb. 24.
MCS investigators determined multiple shootings occurred between 6:15 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Feb. 22. The first altercation was near the intersection of Kenneth Avenue and Armand Drive, where Jackson and an unnamed 18-year-old were walking as a Nissan Maxima approached them. When the Nissan slowed, gunshots were exchanged between the vehicle and one of the pedestrians, according to MCS. The Nissan left and dropped Charles Jones at Touchette Regional Hospital.
Investigators say a second incident transpired as the Nissan returned to the neighborhood and more gunshots were exchanged between the 18-year-old and Jackson in the 100 Block of Lazarcheff. An unnamed 15-year-old male occupant of the Nissan suffered one non-life-threatening injury. He was treated at a hospital for his injuries and released.
Again, the Nissan occupants returned to Lazarcheff, but this time in an Infiniti Q50. As more bullets flew, no injuries were reported by MCS.
Both the Infiniti and the Nissan were recovered during the investigation this week and multiple firearms were also recovered.
MCS says the investigate efforts continue for this shooting turned homicide, but the case will be turned back over to the Cahokia Heights Police Department.
Those with information are asked to reach out to Crime Stoppers at 1-866-371-TIPS (8477).
