ST. CHARLES COUNTY, Mo.—A St. Charles County Ambulance District (SCCAD) paramedic has died while on duty.
Paramedic Michael Clarke, 27, was found unresponsive in one of the station’s bedrooms this morning, according to a social media post by the ambulance district. His partner went to check on him after he didn’t show up to the ambulance to leave for a call.
Clarke’s partner and other paramedics performed CPR and other life-saving measures as he was transported to Barnes St. Peters. Despite those efforts, Clarke did not survive.
Black bunting is up at station 12 on McMenamy Road where Clarke worked.
Clarke, a two-year veteran of the department, is remembered for bringing a positive energy to the station for every shift, according to the post.
“Michael embodied each of our values, but perhaps none more so than Compassion – his kindness put patients at ease and earned him respect among colleagues and community health partners. This loss is profound, and we appreciate the support of our community during this difficult time,” said SCCAD Chief Kelly Cope.
Clarke completed this EMT and paramedic training with SCCAD.
Funeral arrangements are pending.
The department’s Paramedic Association, Honor Guard and leadership team will support his loved ones as they navigate the loss.
