ST. LOUIS — Data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics ties St. Louis at No. 3 in the country for its job growth rate. Indianapolis being the other.

  • Between August 2023 and August 2024, St. Louis job rate grew by 2.6%

  • St. Louis is among the top 10 in job rate growth for the first time since 1990.

 

Between August 2023 and August 2024, nonfarm employment increased in 24 metros while remaining mostly unchanged in 27 others, according to the recently-released BLS Metropolotan Area Employment and Unemployment Summary for August 2024. 

Only Las Vegas and Salt Lake City saw higher rates of growth between August of 2023 and 2024.

The growth rate in Las Vegas, Nev., was the highest at 3.7%. Salt Lake City, Utah, was ranked second with a growth of 2.7% and St. Louis narrowly trailed with a growth of 2.6%

“This is the second straight federal data report showing St. Louis as one of the fastest-growing metros in the country for jobs,” said Jason Hall, CEO of Greater St. Louis, Inc.

“We have much more work to do moving forward, but this continued momentum shows the rest of the country that what we are building here is real and that the way we are working to grow our economy – inclusively, collaboratively, and speaking with a unified voice as one metro – is the right path, the path upon which we must continue.”
