ST. LOUIS—The man accused of DWI and speeding in the Sunday accident that led to the death of a St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department officer has a court hearing set for Monday in St. Charles County as prosecutors there look to revoke his probation.

Ramon Chavez-Rodriguez, an undocumented immigrant from Honduras, was on probation for previous incidents involving DWI and domestic assault in 2020 in St. Peters. He received a suspended imposition of sentence for two years on the DWI case and five years on the domestic assault. The latter sentence was due to expire on Oct. 1.

The St. Charles County Prosecuting Attorney’s office filed Monday to have the probation suspended and revoked after Chavez-Rodriguez was charged with DWI involving the death of a law enforcement officer, speeding and driving without a license.

He’s accused of hitting St. Louis Metropolitan Police Officer David Lee, who died during surgery Sunday.

Chavez-Rodriguez is being held without bond on the St. Louis charges, pending a hearing Oct. 2. St. Charles County has asked for $500,000 bond in connection with the probation revocation.

A spokesperson for St. Peters police said the agency notified federal immigration authorities on the day Chavez-Rodriguez was arrested, Oct. 26, 2020. Immigration and Customs Enforcement authorities told St. Peters police that he was already out on bond for being in the U.S. illegally, Spectrum News learned Wednesday. He made bond on the local charges two days later.

On Wednesday, a procession escorted Lee’s body from the St. Louis Medical Examiner’s Office to an area funeral home. His visitation and funeral are scheduled for Friendly Missionary Baptist Church in St. Louis on October 5 at Friendly Temple Missionary Baptist Church, starting at 10 a.m., with a funeral starting at 1 p.m.
