ST. LOUIS—Drivers around Missouri may want to fill up their gas tanks ahead of Labor Day because prices may increase soon due to busy holiday travel and Hurricane Idalia.
According to AAA, the average gallon of gas in Missouri is $3.49 for regular unleaded fuel. The price is four cents less compared to last Thursday and is five cents more than Aug. 31, 2022.
In St. Louis, the average is about $3.58 a gallon and has held steady at that price for about a week, but it is up about 15 cents from a month ago.
AAA says gas prices could increase in the coming days as more people are expected to travel for Labor Day.
"Demand for fuel remains strong which could cause prices to further increase over the holiday. AAA Travel bookings are four percent higher compared to Labor Day 2022,”
said AAA Spokesperson Nick Chabarria.
Another factor impacting gas prices could be the aftermath of Hurricane Idalia. It temporarily shut down three refineries along the Gulf Coast, which could lead to an increase on prices.
