ST. CHARLES COUNTY, Mo. – Two of the top ten most livable small cities in America are located in St. Charles County, Missouri, according to a new study by SmartAsset.com. O’Fallon is the most livable small city in America for the second year in a row. St. Charles was ninth.
SmartAsset looked at 286 cities with a population between 65,000 and 100,000. The study considered things like: concentration of entertainment establishments, restaurants, bars and healthcare establishments, home affordability, unemployment rate, and more.
The study found O’Fallon has affordable housing, with average housing making up about 18% of the median income, the 25th-lowest percentage in the study. It also has the 11th-lowest income inequality and 4.6% of residents are living below the poverty line.
St. Charles came in as the 9th most livable small city. The study found it has some of the most affordable housing. It also ranks in the top 15th-percentile for its concentration of healthcare establishments.
Other Midwest cities are also places people are finding livability. The study found the Midwest is home to a high concentration of the most livable small cities in the country. The top ten cities also stand out for affordable housing. Out of the top ten cities on the list, six are in the top 19th percentile for low housing costs relative to income.
