ST. LOUIS—Battlehawks’ head coach Anthony Becht is excited about their league best record and all UFL players heard good news on Monday when the league agreed to the new collective bargaining agreement.

“I am happy for the players and the league for working it and hashing it out,” said Becht on the new CBA. “These are tough things and you know this league hasn’t been around long and they’re obviously are foreshadowing a positive outlook for this league which is great.”

While all players are winning off the field, the Battlehawks are 4-2 on the field which ties them with three other teams for the top record in the UFL.

“We’re ecstatic to be four and two, we’re ecstatic to be back in the conversation but we’re not surprised because we know what we have and we have got to continue to finish the deal,” said Becht. “I think what’s good about what we’re doing this years is we had some success early. We hit a wall and hit some major adversity for two straight weeks. Now we’ve been able to bounce back and stack the wins.”

Battlehawks are 2-0 since Max Duggan took over the reigns at quarterback, following a season-ending injury to season-starter Manny Wilkins. Fellow quarterback, Chevan Cordeiro, is also injured. Duggan was sacked and hit multiple times in Friday night’s win. Becht wants to see his mobile quarterback upright and healthy, which can be accomplished in multiple ways.

“For Max, he does need to see a few things a little quicker—we got to be a little bit more crisper in our routes and protection-wise we got to hold on for a little bit longer. (The Renegades) are a very good defensive line. That’s a good team, we’re not the only ones they’ve sacked this year.”

Though the Renegades sacked Duggan five times, the Battlehawks found their quarterback too and generated three more turnovers than the visitors.

“What a defensive effort. I watched the tape twice, three times, it’s a fun tape to watch. Everybody is just flying around and we made them uncomfortable. That’s a team that scores a lot of points. We had four turnovers in the game, probably should have had six to be honest with you.”

After one week of the offense soaring and last week the defense flying to the ball carriers, Battlehawks look to put it all together against the Memphis Showboats.
