KANSAS CITY, Mo. — As more winter weather approaches Kansas City, Evergy is prepared to respond to potential power outages and ensure customers remain informed and safe.
Evergy spokesperson Courtney Lewis emphasized that crews are on alert and ready to act if outages occur.
“Our crews and contract crews have been notified and will be ready to respond should outages occur,” Lewis said. “We’ve had two significant winter storms this year, and the power grid has held up well. When outages did occur, Evergy crews were able to respond safely and quickly.”
Lewis noted that current weather forecasts present two key advantages that may help minimize storm-related damage.
“This time, we’re not expecting heavy, wet snow, which is more prone to collect and cause damage,” she explained. “Additionally, trees have lost most or all of their leaves, making them less susceptible to wind damage. That means fewer branches are likely to impact power lines.”
Evergy urges customers to take precautions and be prepared for any severe weather event.
“Every storm is unique, and we always encourage customers to be prepared,” Lewis said. “Customers should download Evergy's mobile app to easily report outages, establish a shelter plan with their family so everyone knows where to go in the event of severe weather, and assemble an emergency kit.”
Evergy suggests including the following items in an emergency kit:
• Water
• Non-perishable food
• Prescription medications
• Fresh batteries
• A battery-powered radio
• A flashlight
• A first-aid kit
• A cell phone charger or power bank
