One person was badly burned in a fire that damaged a condemned house in Bangor on Monday.
Bangor firefighters responded to the fire at 75 4th St. at around 5:40 a.m., according to Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss.
Initial reports indicated that people were trapped inside the condemned single-family home, according to Moss.
Firefighters found no one inside but one person who had been inside was seriously burned, Moss stated.
“He was transported to a Bangor hospital and will be transferred to Maine Medical Center in Portland for further treatment,” Moss said on Monday. “Two firefighters suffered minor injuries during the response and were treated on scene.”
The fire significantly damaged the house, according to Moss.
Fire marshal investigators and Bangor Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division worked to determine how the fire happened, according to Moss.
“Preliminary findings indicate that a propane gas explosion was the likely cause of the fire,” Moss said. “The Bangor Fire Department’s Technical Rescue Team played a critical role in securing the structure, allowing investigators to safely enter and conduct their work. The Maine Fuel Board has also been called in to assist with the investigation.”
