The Goodwill store in Augusta temporarily closed Tuesday afternoon after someone dropped off a box containing grenades or mortars, according to police.

The store was evacuated before the Maine State Police bomb team secured the items.

Augusta police said there were no threats communicated and police do not have any information to believe that there was ill intent by the person who dropped off the box.

Spectrum News has reached out to Goodwill of Northern New England and the Augusta Police Department for comment.

This is not the first instance of this kind. A Goodwill store in Falmouth was evacuated in 2023 when someone attempted to donate a military-type container with an inert grenade inside.
