A Maine Game Warden and dog located a missing two-year-old girl in Jay on Tuesday.

The child and mother were outside their home on Tripp Lane, according to Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife spokesperson Mark Latti. While doing chores outside, the mother noticed that the toddler was missing.

Family members couldn’t locate the child after searching the immediate area and the mother called 911 at about 11 a.m., according to Latti. Local law enforcement and game wardens searched the area, including surrounding buildings and the nearby woods.

At about 1:15 p.m., Game Warden Jake Voter and dog Koda found the child in thick brush about 300 yards northwest of the back of the house, Latti said.

The child was healthy and alert with minor scrapes after walking through the woods, Latti said. She was examined by emergency medical personnel and reunited with her family.

“Warden Voter and K9 Koda did an excellent job locating this young toddler in the thick woods where she was hidden by the brush,” said Maine Game Warden Sgt. Scott Thrasher. “Given the child’s age, it was important to get multiple searchers here quickly and get them searching. It was great teamwork by multiple agencies that made for a very happy ending for the toddler and her family.”
