One man has died following a two-car crash in the Washington County town of Steuben.

Maine State Troopers responded to a report of a fatal crash on Route 1 at 12:47 p.m. Thursday, according to a Maine Department of Public Safety news release.

A red 2014 Nissan Rogue was being driven by Nicholas Libby, 36, of Addison east on Route 1 in Steuben when it crossed the centerline, the release stated.

Libby’s vehicle then struck a silver 2003 Subaru Forester driven by David Worcester, 51, of Lamoine, according to the release.

Worcester was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Libby was transported to Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center Hospital in Bangor to be treated for serious injuries. 

The crash remains under investigation. 

State police were assisted by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, the Ellsworth Police Department and the Steuben Fire Department.
