One man has been arrested on several charges after allegedly leading police on a chase through the southern Maine communities of Standish and Cornish, according to a news release from the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies on Feb. 23 at about 11 p.m. arrived at  37 Oak Hill Road in Standish, after a homeowner reported a Jeep parked in her driveway with the lights off, police said.

“The vehicle matched the description of a shooting suspect from the day prior,” police stated in the release.

Deputies found Aaron Difillipo, 52, near the Jeep.

“Difillipo refused to comply with commands deputies were giving him,” police stated.

Difillipo eventually entered the Jeep and “began consuming a large quantity of pills from a bottle of pills and using what appeared to be an alcoholic beverage to aid him in swallowing the pills,” police stated.

Deputies told Difillipo to leave the Jeep, but instead he allegedly drove around “numerous law enforcement vehicles and spike strips through a ditch and took off,” police stated. “Deputies attempted to catch up to him, however, he took a side road while he was out of sight and eluded immediate capture.”

The Jeep was later found on Route 113 and police gave chase when Difillipo allegedly refused to stop.

Deputies pursued Difillipo as he turned onto Route 5/117 into Cornish, where he was chased by Maine State Police, who used a cruiser to disable to Jeep before he was taken into custody, according to police.

“In his vehicle, in plain view, were 30-30 shell casings, liquor and a crossbow,” police stated, adding that Difillio “appeared to be highly intoxicated and was ultimately transported to the Cumberland County Jail.”

Defillio is being held on charges including OUI, criminal threatening, illegal possession of a firearm, obstructing government administration, eluding an officer, criminal mischief, aggravated reckless conduct and refusing to submit to arrest, according to police.

A deputy was injured with puncture wounds on his arm from the sheriff’s department police dog as the deputy tried to take Defillio into custody, police stated.

“The Deputy was treated and released from the Maine Medical Center with a minor injury,” police said.
