One person was killed in a single-vehicle crash on the Maine Turnpike in York on Monday.

State police were alerted to the crash at around 1:45 p.m. at Mile Marker 7 southbound, according to a news release from the Maine Department of Public Safety. Troopers found a 2023 Dodge pickup truck had left the road and crashed into the tree line

“As a result of the crash the vehicle and several trees caught fire, which were extinguished by the York Fire Department,” department spokesperson Shannon Moss stated in the release.

The vehicle was only occupied by the driver, who did not survive, according to Moss.

“The Maine State Police is working with the Office of Chief Medical Examiner to positively identify the driver,” Moss stated. “Until the driver is positively identified the name will not be released.”

Police are asking anyone with information to contact Trooper Sophia Swiatek at (207) 624-7076.
