Maine Game Warden Chad Robertson and his rescue dog Storm found a missing 85-year-old man Monday night near a bog in the Piscataquis County town of Parkman.
Gene Wilbur, who suffers from dementia, was reported missing about 6:40 p.m.
With daylight fading and heavy rain in the forecast, eight game wardens, a pilot, Maine Search and Rescue Dogs and a Piscataquis County sheriff’s deputy responded to the scene, according to the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife.
After only about 20 minutes, Storm found Wilbur more than a quarter mile from his home in the woods on the edge of a bog.
Wilbur was unable to stand and his feet and legs were wet from going into the bog, the warden service said.
Several wardens helped him walk to a road and then a warden service truck took him to an ambulance.
He was hypothermic and dehydrated but was later released from Northern Light Hospital in Dover Foxcroft, wardens said.
