A 13-year-old boy is in the hospital with serious injuries Monday afternoon after he was struck by a tractor trailer truck while getting off the school bus in Gray, police said.
According to the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department, the incident happened around 2:29 p.m. at 135 Lewiston Road.
Police said the student had just gotten off of an SAD 15 Gray/New Gloucester School Bus and was crossing the road when he was hit by a tractor trailer truck.
The boy was taken to Maine Medical Center with what the department described as “serious injuries.”
Police said the bus, which was carrying 17 middle and high school students, had its lights on and stop arm activated at the time of the accident. The bus driver was identified as Joyce Hamilton, 62, of New Gloucester.
The truck, police said, is owned by Bard Trucking of Farmington. The driver is identified as Jeffrey Lane, 49, of Farmington.
Police said the incident is still under investigation.
