Seven people were transported from a Kittery daycare center to local hospitals on Wednesday, the Kittery Fire Department stated.

Dispatchers received a call shortly before 3:20 p.m. regarding potential carbon monoxide in the Building Blocks daycare center at 1 Route 236.

“There were 27 children and approximately 10 staff in the building at the time of the call,” the fire department stated.

Seven patients were transported to local hospitals for injuries not considered life-threatening, according to the department.

“There have been no deaths and no serious injuries identified at this time,” the department stated. “Children are being reunited with their parents in accordance with the daycare’s protocols.”

The state fire marshal’s office was expected to investigate the incident. They were en route to the scene as of 5 p.m.

"The Fire Marshal’s Office is aware of a potential carbon monoxide incident at Building Blocks Daycare at 1 Route 236 in Kittery," Shannon Moss, spokesperson for the Maine Department of Public Safety, said. "The Kittery Fire Department has posted initial information on their Facebook page. The Maine State Fire Marshal’s Office has investigators and inspectors en route to determine the cause of the incident. We will provide updates as soon as additional information becomes available."

Kittery Fire Department was assisted by Stewarts Ambulance and Kittery Police Department as well as departments from nearby communities.
