A plume of tropical moisture is bringing elevated rain chances to parts of Hawaii, especially the eastern end of the state. Locally heavy rain and storms are expected through Tuesday, especially over Maui and the Big Island.
Flood Watches are in effect for Maui and the Big Island through Tuesday Afternoon. The highest potential for flooding is over windward portions of Maui and the Big Island.
According to NWS Honolulu, flood prone roads and other low-lying areas may be closed because of elevated runoff and overflowing streams. This is especially true for rain that occurs over saturated ground.
High Surf Advisories are also in effect for north and west-facing shores of the smaller islands. Surf of 12 to 16 feet is expected along the north-facing shores of Niihau, Kauai, Oahu, Molokai and Maui.
Surf of 8 to 12 feet is expected along the west-facing shores of Niihau, Kauai, Oahu and Molokai.
