Most of the islands saw winds and surf ease over the weekend, but that wasn't necessarily the case on top of Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea.

Following a few days with rough surf and gusty winds, most of the Aloha State will continue to deal with calmer conditions through the rest of the weekend. Yet, despite gradual weakening, winds will stay powerful for the Big Island's highest summits through most of the day Sunday.

High Wind Warnings for summits on the Big Island remain in effect until Sunday evening.


Strong westerly winds will continue to blow through the mountains between 45 to 55 mph, but some of the strongest gusts could still reach around 65 mph through Sunday.

These winds should continue to weaken as the day progresses, but those planning to take a trip to the top of either mountain should stay aware of their surroundings. These winds will make driving and walking difficult.
