HONOLULU — The Hawaii Department of Health Food and Drug Branch alerts residents to a voluntary recall issued by WanaBana of all its Apple Cinnamon Fruit Puree pouch products distributed nationwide to retailers, including retailers such as Amazon.com, according to a news release.

Hawaii DOH notes that all lot codes and expiration dates of the Apple Cinnamon Fruit Puree pouches are included in the recall, since they may contain elevated levels of lead.

No other WanaBana fruit products are affected by the recall.

The DOH FDB warns that lead is toxic to humans and can affect people of any age or health status. Protecting children from lead exposure is important to lifelong good health.

The department advises parents and caregivers of toddlers and young children who may have consumed the product to contact their child’s healthcare provider about getting a blood test.

According to DOH, to date, they have not received any reports of illnesses or injuries due to the consumption of the product.

Consumers can contact WanaBana by calling 888-272-7184 or visiting the WanaBana website.
