HONOLULU — U.S. Representative Ed Case will host the next in his series of talk story community meetings on Nov. 4, focusing on topics related to the state’s veterans.

The talk story takes place from 9 to 10:30 a.m. on Nov. 4 at the Keehi Lagoon Memorial located at the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Memorial Hall at 2685 North Nimitz Hwy.

According to a news release, Case will share the House-passed version of the appropriations measure for the Department of Veterans Affairs, which allocated nearly $300 billion for the agency. It is in addition to the $20 billion Congress included for the Cost of War Toxic Exposure Fund under the Promise to Address Comprehensive Toxics Act of 2022 (PACT Act), the law that expands health care and benefits for veterans who were exposed to Agent Orange, burns pits and other toxic substances.

Case will also address veterans’ mental health and suicide prevention and his work advocating for Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander veterans.

He will also provide an update on two facilities nearing completion in West Oahu — the Daniel K. Akaka Clinic in Kalaeloa and the Daniel K. Akaka Veterans Home in Kapolei.

Following the presentation, veterans will be able to address their individual concerns and needs, such as VA benefits.

Another talk story series is scheduled for the first week of January 2024.
