HONOLULU — After $3.06 million in upgrades, the Hawaii Suites meeting rooms are officially kicking off its reopening this weekend with the return of the annual Wiki Wiki One Day Vintage Collectibles and Hawaiiana Show on Oct. 1.
Added to the Neal S. Blaisdell Center’s Exhibition Hall in 1993, the 12 meeting rooms accommodate smaller events, act as breakout rooms and effectively expand the capacity of the exhibition space.
Upgrades address safety issues, energy efficiencies and deferred maintenance, such as new moving acoustic divider walls, new air handlers and thermostat controls for each room, energy efficient dimmable lighting, new commercial quality flooring, wall finishes, and solar shades to modernize the facility, according to a news release.
“Working in conjunction with our staff and contractor, S&M Sakamoto, we are very pleased to have this five-month renovation project completed on time and on budget so we can promptly resume business and reopen our doors to host our community events, meetings and activities,” said Department of Enterprise Services Director Dita Holifield in the release.
“We truly appreciate everyone’s patience with our campus-wide construction closures and are thrilled to welcome back our loyal tenants and are looking forward to accommodating and serving new interests as well. As we approach 60 years of being Hawaii’s entertainment hub, we remain focused on improving our facilities and services to provide for many more memorable and exciting events in the years to come,” added Holifield.
$43.6 million has been appropriated for campus-wide capital improvement projects to be managed by the city’s Department of Design and Construction with architectural and engineering work headed by consultants Pacific Architects, Inc. and WCIT, according to the release.
Scheduled construction projects will allow for either the Blaisdell Center or Tom Moffat Waikiki Shell to remain open so as not to require any full closures.
