HONOLULU — Foster Botanical Garden, the centrally located urban garden in Honolulu, reopens Aug. 14 with its regular operating hours of 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., announced the Honolulu Department of Parks and Recreation.

“We really appreciate the public’s patience while we worked with the contractor, park and garden staff, and our counterparts in the Department of Design and Construction to finish several efforts within this popular, urban garden,” said Joshlyn Sand, director of the Honolulu Botanical Gardens in a news release. “It is evident through the many inquiries we received about the garden how beloved this location is to kamaaina and malihini alike. To show our appreciation, we are extending the expiration date for garden visitors holding annual passes valid during the closure period.”

People holding annual passes that were valid during the Feb. 13 to Aug. 13 closure will get their passes extended by seven months from its original expiration date.

The garden was initially closed on Feb. 13 to improve accessibility at the entrance, bathrooms, community garden and pathways. The closure was extended when additional issues required further review and a realignment of the accessible walkway.

An upcoming project to demolish an old annex building on property will not require a closure.
