HONOLULU — The public is invited to a special anniversary event at Iolani Palace as the shop celebrates its 38th year, 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday.
Activities will take place in Iolani Barracks and live music performed in the courtyard. And those who spend $100 or more will get a free monarch milo legacy tree from Hawaii Legacy Reforestation Initiative, while supplies last.
Cultural practitioner Anuhea Kaneali‘i, founder of Hear Hawaii, will also conduct two workshops on education and moolelo (oral history), at noon to 1 p.m. and 2 to 3 p.m. Attendees will read selected passages from “Hawaii’s Story” by Hawaii’s Queen Lili‘uokalani and discuss the educational background of the alii (chiefs). Space is limited to 20 per class and pre-registration is required.
The Palace Shop will also unveil the 2022 Iolani Palace Ornament design, which will be available to pre-order to the first 100 customers.
