HONOLULU — Moana Jones Wong has done it again. Pupukea born Wong earned her second QS victory at Ala Moana bowls Tuesday, beating out Lihue's Bethany Hamilton, Coco Ho and up-and-comer Puamakamae DeSoto of Haleiwa.

Wong had mind-blowing 9-point rides all along the way and nailed the win with a 8.10 back up. DeSoto had a heat total of 15.35 with Ho at 15.20.

"I'm super stoked and Bowls is super special to me," said Wong according to a World Surf League press release. "My grandpa is born and raised right here, and surfed this wave every day when he was growing up. To win at my grandpa's favorite wave is the best thing ever."

Wong now starts the season ranked No. 1 where she left off at the end of the 2021-22’s season.

The men’s final was a heated competition between Lahaina’s Eli Hanneman, Paia’s Jackson Bunch, Joshua Moniz and “Kai boy” Kai Martin. Ultimately, Hanneman `busted it out like Airwolf’ pulling a 360 landing for a near-perfect 9.25 in the opening minutes, and put the nail in the coffin with a 9.00 to earn the highest heat total of the event and his first-ever QS win.

“It's been a long time since I've won a contest and it feels nice," said Hanneman in a release. "It felt good to out and do I what I do. Sometimes when you surf contest and heats it kind of suppresses your capabilities, and you tend to hold back sometimes. It felt good to go out and put it all on the line."
