When Hawaii is involved, home-floor advantage hasn’t meant a heck of a lot in the first half of the Big West women’s volleyball season.

UH knocked off its second Big West contender on the road on Friday night, sweeping Cal Poly 25-21, 29-27, 25-21 in front of an announced crowd of 2,327 at Mott Athletics Center in San Luis Obispo, Calif.

The Rainbow Wahine did the same to Long Beach State at the Walter Pyramid two weeks ago. But underscoring their hot-and-cold play, they have also lost at home twice in conference, contributing to a jam-packed top half of the BWC standings.

Nearing the midpoint of the 18-game BWC regular season, UC Davis leads at 6-1. Cal Poly (13-6 overall) now trails by a half-game at 6-2. UH (11-6 overall) is one game off the lead at 5-2 along with LBSU and UC Irvine.

Caylen Alexander put down a match-high 18 kills, including nine in the third set to put away the Mustangs. Middle Jacyn Bamis added a career-best 15 kills on 29 swings and Tali Hakas had nine kills on 20 swings without an error (.450). Freshman Miliana Sylvester contributed nine kills.

Hakas had a well-rounded game with 10 digs and four block assists. Setter Kate Lang distributed 49 assists and floated in a career-best five service aces, while libero Tayli Ikenaga had 13 digs to move into the UH career top 10 at 1,142, passing Suzanne Eagye.

The match swung for good in UH’s favor when the Wahine rallied from down 22-19 to tie it at 24 in the second set. They scored three straight points to take it in extras, with Bamis and Hakas putting down kills followed by an error by the Mustangs’ Tommi Stockham.

UH hit .298 to Cal Poly’s .274.

Stockham led the Mustangs with 14 kills and 10 digs while hitting .225.

UH continues its three-match road trip at UC Santa Barbara (7-12, 3-4) at 4 p.m. Hawaii time Saturday.
