Just like that, the Hawaii women’s volleyball team went from all drama to all business.

The Rainbow Wahine put aside their penchant for five-set shenanigans — a perfect example of it came less than 24 hours earlier in a reverse sweep win at UC San Diego — and made quick work of Long Beach State at the Walter Pyramid in Long Beach, Calif.

The stunning 25-17, 25-16, 25-19 outcome came in just 81 minutes against a team that was tied for the Big West lead entering the day. Now UH (9-5, 3-1 BWC) and five other teams, including the Beach (9-5, 3-1), share that lead through two weeks of conference play.

Caylen Alexander put down 18 kills on a season-best .452 percentage to cap a two-match trip that effectively answered questions that abounded on her status at the start of the week. Middle Jacyn Bamis had nine kills and was in on four blocks and Tali Hakas put down eight balls.

Senior setter Kate Lang had 36 assists to move into fifth place in program history at 3,822, passing Mita Uiato, and supplied a match-high 15 digs.

Alexander added 10 digs and Hakas and Tayli Ikenaga nine apiece as the Wahine decisively outdid the Beach in that category, 50-29, a primary reason UH hit .265 to LBSU’s .062 despite the Beach winning the blocks battle 11-7.

LBSU’s top two options, Natalie Glenn and Madi Maxwell, were held to a combined 12 kills with 10 attack errors.

Jackie Matias lobbed in two of UH’s five service aces, while LBSU did not record one. The last time that happened was UH’s sweep of the Beach at the Pyramid in last year’s Big West championship match.

Before Saturday, the last time UH achieved a sweep of LBSU at the Pyramid in the regular season was 2013.

The Wahine host co-leader UC Davis (8-5, 3-1) at 7 p.m. Friday and UC Riverside (5-12, 0-4) at 5 p.m. Sunday.
