University of Hawaii football star wide receiver Steven McBride was arrested on an allegation of abuse of family on Saturday and was subsequently suspended from the team.

McBride, 22, was booked at 7 a.m. near Schofield Barracks, according to the Honolulu Police Department’s adult arrest log.

UH sent out a statement to the media at noon Sunday: “The University of Hawaii takes any allegation of domestic violence very seriously. The university can confirm that Steven McBride is a student-athlete on the 2024-2025 football roster, and that UH has received notification that he was detained. Per our Student-Athlete Handbook, any student facing felony charges will be automatically suspended from participation in intercollegiate athletics, pending further processes occurring. The appropriate UH officials have been notified."

The 6-foot-1 McBride was a breakout player for the Rainbow Warriors in 2023 as a transfer from Kansas. He led the team with 1,024 yards and nine touchdowns on 63 catches, earning All-Mountain West second-team honors.

UH opens fall camp for the 2024 season this week, with the first full practice scheduled for Wednesday.
