HONOLULU — Amid a persistent rainstorm, the HHSAA postponed Thursday’s softball semifinals at the University of Hawaii’s Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.

Four games – two in Division I and two in Division II – are now planned to be made up on Friday, in addition to the playing of the D-I and D-II championship games that were originally scheduled.

On Thursday, the HHSAA used alternate sites to make up two quarterfinal games that were postponed due to heavy rain Wednesday night. The Division I matchup between Mililani and Kalani at Campbell went 15-1 to the Trojans and the last Division II quarterfinal between Kapaa and Kohala went 23-4 to Kapaa at Moanalua.

In the completed Division I quarterfinals played at RWSS on Wednesday, defending champion Campbell routed BIIF champ Kealakehe, 16-1 in five innings; MIL champ Baldwin edged Kapolei, 12-11; and Kamehameha thumped Leilehua, 13-3 in five innings.

The HHSAA worked out two sites Friday to split between the D-I and D-II semis. At Moanalua, Pac-Five is scheduled to play Waimea at 10 a.m., followed by Kamehameha and Baldwin. At Pearl City, Kapaa and Aiea are to play at 10 a.m., followed by Mililani and Campbell.

If those games are successfully completed, the Division II championship is set for 4:30 p.m. at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium, followed by the D-I title game at 7 p.m.

Kamehameha coach Mark Lyman said after Wednesday’s win that his players have so far navigated the uncertain scheduling.

“We had the girls locked in,” he said. “We work on hitting a lot and they were ready for it. We had a little bit of a delay, so they were champing at the bit and they were ready to go.”
