Seabury Hall’s Tyler Loree won his school’s first individual title in the David S. Ishii Foundation/HHSAA Boys Golf Championships held Tuesday and Wednesday at Kaneohe Klipper Golf Course.
Loree, a junior from Kula, Maui, shot a three-under-par total of 69-72–141 as the only player to shoot par or better over the two days at the par-72 Klipper. It was the first time the private course at Kaneohe Marine Corps Base Hawaii was used for states.
The UCLA commit was the first player from Maui to win the Hawaii boys individual title since Maui High's William Coelho in 1988, and second overall.
Loree led Moanalua’s Nate Choi by two strokes after Tuesday and withstood a hard charge from runner-up Keola Silva Jr. on Wednesday. Silva shot a 68, the best round of the tournament, to finish at 1-under 143.
Waiakea High repeated as the boys team champion with a score of 303-309–612, holding on to beat Moanalua and Punahou by five strokes.
The Warriors held a seven-stroke lead over Maui Prep after Tuesday’s first round. Punahou’s 300 on Wednesday was the best single-day team score for any school.
It was the 13th boys team title for Waiakea. Punahou has second-most with 11.
The HHSAA girls tournament is May 7 and 8 at the Klipper.
