There was apparently good reason that Hawaii and UC San Diego moved their scheduled doubleheader from Saturday to Friday.

Saturday’s three-game series finale in La Jolla, California, was rained out, leaving the Rainbow Wahine and Tritons with a two-game split and mutual top-half standing in the Big West through three conference weekends.

UH (12-17, 5-3 BWC) got shut out, 2-0, in Friday’s opener but came back in the nightcap with a 5-2 win behind a strong outing from Key-annah Campbell-Pua (4-5), who improved to 3-0 in league contests.

UCSD (12-21, 5-3) is tied with UH in fourth place.

The Tritons’ India Caldwell topped UH’s Addison Kostrencich (6-6) in a pitcher’s duel with a five-hitter in the opener.

First baseman Dallas Millwood recorded three RBIs in the second game with a 3-for-4 outing that included a ground-rule double.

With an unequal number of league games played among its teams, Big West will go to winning percentage, if necessary, to determine its regular-season champion and automatic NCAA tournament berth. Cal State Fullerton has the lead at 8-1, followed by Cal Poly at 7-2 and Long Beach State at 6-2.

UH returns home to host Cal Poly at 6 p.m. Friday at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.
