Brayden Schager will give it one more go at Hawaii after all.

After UH football’s starting quarterback of the last two seasons announced Dec. 6 that he would enter the NCAA transfer portal to find a new option for his final year of college football, Schager announced Sunday morning he will return to the Rainbow Warriors in 2024.

“Let’s run it back! Love this state, love this team,” he tweeted.

Schager received the blessing of coach Timmy Chang and returning members of the 2023 team, the Honolulu Star-Advertiser’s Stephen Tsai reported.

Schager, a Dallas native, had taken a visit to BYU of the Big 12 after entering the portal.

In UH’s modified run-and-shoot offense, Schager enjoyed a breakout year in 2023, increasing his completion percentage from 55% in 2022 to 63%, and going from 2,348 yards to 3,542. He showed an ability to scramble when necessary down the stretch, helping UH win three of its last four games to finish 5-8.

The All-Mountain West honorable mention had 26 touchdowns against 14 interceptions, plus two TDs on the ground, and was second in the conference in passing yardage per game at 272.5, behind only Colorado State’s Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi (288.3).

UH signed some added competition for Schager for 2024 in Bishop Gorman (Nev.) quarterback Micah Alejado, the MaxPreps Nevada Player of the Year. Alejado helped guide the Gaels to a 12-0 record and No. 1 national ranking at the end of the year. Alejado is graduating early and plans to enroll at UH in January to compete in spring practices.
