A season of new territory for the Chaminade women’s volleyball team resulted in the first regional No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament in program history on Monday.

The Silverswords (29-3) open up West Region play in San Bernardino, Calif., on Nov. 30 against No. 8 San Francisco State. Last year, coach Kahala Kabalis-Hoke’s team won two matches in the No. 8 slot to reach the regional final for the first time.

With a stronger seed in mind, CUH beefed up its offseason regimen with the school’s first athletics foreign tour and got off to a strong start with a sweep of its nonconference Alaska trip.

The Silverswords have won 16 of 17, and six in a row, though they finished a game behind Point Loma for the PacWest Conference championship with a 17-3 league record. Point Loma was seeded sixth in the region.

A Chaminade spokesperson said the Silverswords did not put in a bid to host the regional. Cal State San Bernardino, the No. 2 West seed, was granted hosting duties. Match times have not been announced.

The winner of the regional will travel to Moon Township, Pa., for the NCAA II championships against the seven other regional winners Dec. 7 to 9. The full Division II bracket is here.

Chaminade is ranked No. 14 overall in the AVCA Division II poll.
