BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — Hawaii turned to its bench to reach the 20-win threshold for the 14th time in program history.

Backup guard Justus Jackson scored a career-high 16 points and Beon Riley infused the Rainbow Warriors with energy to make up for two starters going scoreless as UH won 61-50 at Cal State Bakersfield’s Icardo Center on Monday.

UH (20-8, 11-5 Big West) earned a two-game road sweep and reached the 20-win mark for the first time since its Big West championship season of 2015-16, Eran Ganot’s first year as coach. It remained in the top four of the conference standings heading into the final four games of the regular season.

Point guard JoVon McClanahan scored 15, including a buzzer-beating 3 from half-court for a four-point halftime lead. Forward Kamaka Hepa and wing Samuta Avea added 12 apiece.

Bakersfield (10-17, 6-10) eked within a point on Antavion Collum’s free throws with 9:33 left.

That’s when the bench ignited the key sequence of the game. Riley hit two free throws, Jackson nailed his career-best fourth 3-pointer and Riley lobbed it to freshman center Mor Seck for a dunk and an eight-point lead with 8:13 remaining.

CSUB got it to within four from there, but no closer, as UH eluded its desperation pressure.

Jackson shot 6-for-8 from the field, including 4-for-5 on 3s. Riley was 0-for-4 from the field for three points but supplied six rebounds, two assists and a steal in 21 minutes. Seck had three points, four rebounds and three blocks as the UH reserves outscored CSUB’s 22-5.

Center Bernardo da Silva was in foul trouble and went scoreless in 12 minutes, and slumping guard Noel Coleman struggled (0-for-3) against the physical Roadrunners in 17 minutes. He failed to score for the first time since early in the 2021-22 season. Coleman sat the final 13:35 of the game and da Silva the last 10-plus minutes as Ganot rode Jackson's hot hand and Riley's energy.

Collum led the Roadrunners with 19 points.

UH hosts UC Riverside on a tight turnaround Thursday then UC Irvine on senior night Saturday.
