The Hawaii women’s volleyball team had to go the distance in Davis, Calif., to make Robyn Ah Mow the second head coach in program history to reach 100 wins.

Ah Mow and the Rainbow Wahine got the milestone win the hard way with a five-set saga over the Aggies at the newly rebranded University Credit Union Center, 16-25, 25-12, 28-26, 19-25, 15-9 on Saturday afternoon.

UH (14-6, 11-1 Big West) maintained its pole position after a slow start. Middle Amber Igiede pounded 24 kills on .432 hitting to surpass the 800 career kill mark in the fifth frame, while hitter Riley Wagoner also hit a milestone in the last set with her 600th.

Freshman Caylen Alexander matched her season high with 18 kills on .385 hitting and passed 200 kills on the year. Setter Kate Lang matched personal bests with five kills and five blocks while dishing 50 assists.

Igiede was in on seven blocks, but UC Davis won the overall blocks battle 11-9.

Both teams hit above .300 in a match of dramatic swings. The Aggies (9-13, 4-8) won handily in Sets 1 and 4, and UH claimed Sets 2 and 5 in lopsided fashion.

The third was the swing set as the teams tied 10 times. UH took an 18-13 lead but saw that evaporate. UH had set points turned away three times before Wagoner put one down in extra points to claim a 2-1 lead.

Hitter Demari Webb led the Aggies with 21 kills on .368 hitting.

UH heads home to face Long Beach State (14-6, 9-3) and Cal State Fullerton (12-8, 6-6) this week. The Beach beat Cal Poly in five sets Saturday to move into a tie with the Mustangs for third at 9-3. UC Santa Barbara remained in second at 9-2 heading into a Sunday match with UC San Diego.

Ah Mow, in her fifth active season at UH and sixth year overall, is 100-35, including 71-9 in the Big West.

Dave Shoji, the only other coach in program history and an AVCA Hall of Famer, finished with 1,202 wins, second-most in NCAA history.
