HONOLULU — The finest of the East and West have a date with Oahu Interscholastic Association volleyball destiny on Wednesday night.
The top seeds of the OIA’s geographic divisions, Kahuku and Mililani, will meet at Radford High for the league’s Division I championship and the seeded berth for the upcoming HHSAA championships.
Defending champion Kahuku (12-0) has 13 OIA titles all-time and Mililani (11-1) has four. Mililani’s four titles have all come since 2011.
They got to the final with extremely convincing wins in the semis on Monday night. Kahuku, coached by Tuli Tevaga, swept Farrington 25-12, 25-14, 25-17, while Val Crabbe’s Mililani squad dispatched Kapolei 25-13, 25-12, 25-23.
Sophomore hitter Cha’lei Reid was named the Spectrum OC16 Impact Player of the Game for the Red Raiders after notching 14 kills and six digs, while Trojans junior setter Anae Asuncion got the nod in her match with 37 assists, five digs and an ace.
Kailua and Waialua meet for the Division II championship at 5:30 p.m., with the D-I final to follow. Kailua (4-7) is going for its first OIA volleyball title at any classification since 1981 and Waialua (5-6) is going for its first ever.
Also on Monday, Leilehua and Moanalua earned the OIA's final berths to the HHSAA tournament with consolation wins over Waianae and Kalani.
